The Metropolitan Institute organized the Flower Arrangement shoe for the students to acquaint them with the different styles and schools of flower arrangement and to give them a practical knowledge of how flower arrangement can be used in Hotels- entrance hall or in Lobbie, Restaurants, Coffee shops, Suites, Banquet halls, Tables, Buffet counters.

Flowers are an inherent part of human life, flowers are used in various ways and for various reason in our daily life. We use flower to decorate our room, to worship ,to receive somebody as well.

There are three different styles of flower arrangements. These styles are also referred to schools of flower arrangements they are:-

1. Western Style/Traditional Style
   
2. Oriental Style/Japanese Style
   
3. Modern Style/Abstract Style

The Western style is also known as the Traditional style. The western style of arrangement is based on symmetrical grouping of different flowers. It is displayed in a high decorative vase .The Flower arrangement in this style are quite large small flowers are concentrated at the center with large flowers surrounding them. The center always contains dark coloured flowers, white light coloured flowers and foliages are used to out line them the overall shape of traditional arrangement may be round , oval, triangular or pyramidal.

The Oriental style is better known as IKEBANA meaning arrangement of fresh flowers. The Ikebana style of flower arrangement is totally symbolic and is based on the idea of harmony between earthly and spiritual lives. The arrangement is mostly triangular in shape. The highest points representing HEAVEN while the other two points are MAN and EARTH. These three points are combined to form the different flower arrangements in Ikebana.

The Modern style has no fixed rules, the arrangement uses both fresh flowers and foliages along with dry parts of trees pieces of woods ,bank and even sculptures.

The students learnt about various tools used and different shapes of flowers arrangements.

This was a live experience with flowers for the students.
